From a performance perspective, the Lexus IS is a very capable little car, earning an overall score of 8.3 out of 10 from U.S. News. It has taut handling and a range of powerful engines. The IS 500 is also offered with a V8 engine.
The resurrected Integra (9.3), however, is Acura's ace in the hole. Performance fans are familiar with the name. It boasts a cutting-edge, intuitive entertainment system and excellent handling. The Integra also has excellent fuel efficiency ratings.
Luxury Midsize Cars
Winner: Lexus
Since its debut in the 1990s, the Lexus ES (8.8) has consistently been among the best midsize luxury vehicles available on the market. One of the car's minor shortcomings was fixed when Lexus upgraded the entertainment system a few years ago. This touch-screen device supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly. The ES Hybrid is no exception (8.9). The Acura TLX (8.4) is reasonably priced and comes with a lot of standard equipment. Nevertheless, it lags below the Lexus cars in this class due to its constricted back seats and a confusing infotainment system.
Luxury Large Cars
Winner: Lexus
Since Acura does not have a truly full-size premium car, Lexus automatically wins this category. A powerful 416-horsepower twin-turbo V6 engine is standard on the Lexus LS (8.2), which also boasts a roomy and cozy cabin. Advanced driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, traffic-sign recognition, and pedestrian and bicycle detection, are available on all models. A bigger digital instrument panel and a head-up display are now standard on the LS for the 2024 model year.
Exotic Sports Vehicles
Winner: lexus
Lexus wins by default because Acura has no entries in this category.
The LC is available from Lexus (8.9). Although the LC's driving qualities are more suited for leisurely cruising with bursts of furious driving, the V8 sounds amazing. Another option is the RC F (7.6), which dazzles with its powerful V8 and agile driving characteristics.
Performance Automobiles
Winner: Acura
Acura's competent Integra Type S (9.8) is a competitor in this class. The Type S offers dynamic handling and sharp acceleration despite its unimpressive cabin design. The TLX Type S is Acura's second model in this class (8.3). Although it boasts a lot of standard equipment and strong driving dynamics, this midsize sedan might need a little extra legroom in the second row.
The IS 500 is available from Lexus (8.2). This sedan receives low fuel economy ratings and lacks the performance capabilities of competing vehicles in this class. It does, however, offer a luxurious cabin.
